Most people relate Johannesburg to the business centre of Southern Africa, if not all of Africa. The city of Gold has played many roles in the past and we thought it was time to find out what’s happening as close to the pulse as possible.
Our stay was to be at The Saxon Hotel and SPA in Sandhurst, a 5 star retreat and former residence of South African entrepreneur Douw Steyn. This magnificent property has been home to many of the world’s rich, famous and influential, most notable, the late Nelson Mandela who spent time there whilst writing one of his captivating books.
The styling of the hotel is captivating, from the fertility inspired grand foyer and check in area, to the plush suites and villa. Your stay will be nothing short of breath-taking and the ever present staff always seem to be ready to take care of every request you may have.
Our stay started with a private transfer for our weary and travel-tired bodies, for those of you have had made the flight from JFK to Johannesburg you will know what I am talking about…
Warm towels, breath mints and bottled water in the vehicle along with professional, friendly service will see you wiz through the suburbs of Jo’Burg and arriving in the affluent suburb of Sandton and Sandhurst in no time.
Our stay was in one of the Luxury Suites with all the bells and whistles, a butler on call 24/7 even allows for the late night indulgences of a bottle of wine or some fine chocolate delivered to your door. The villas are accessed via a sky bridge through the canopy of the trees below and allow for utmost privacy for you and you party.
We took the opportunity to make use of the SPA facilities and once again we were blown away with the level of service and attention to detail. We would absolutely recommend a treatment in this world class establishment.
After our pampering it was time for a shower and then dinner at one of the restaurants on site.
Our choice of restaurant was QUNU, a fine dining establishment just off the lobby. We sampled a variety of dishes, all elegantly presented in a timely manner and with a wonderful wine selection to boot.
Dinner was a fabulous affair and once done with our desserts we moved in to the Johnny Walker inspired Whiskey bar.
Now single malt fans don’t fret, not only were each year of the popular Blue Label represented but we found a very knowledgeable bar man with an array of Single malts from all regions of Scotland and even the more popular Japanese malts too.
I could go on talking about our experience for pages and pages, but what it all boils down to is that Saxon Hotel is a wonderful property that we will gladly send our guests to, both corporate and leisure, with no hesitation at all, knowing that they will leave relaxed, rejuvenated, and ready for their next return…
So no matter what your reason for staying in Johannesburg, make the Saxon your accommodation of choice and contact us for the best available rates for your upcoming booking.
