A Visit to Pumba Private Game Reserve

FullSizeRender (1)It was such a privilege to visit Pumba Private Game Reserve, part of the African Pride hotel group, for a short stay in January 2015. 5 Star luxury will never get old and at Pumba they make sure that you don’t forget it!

Besides the tranquil setting in the Eastern Cape, a mere 1 hour drive from Port Elizabeth International Airport, Pumba offers accommodation that will take your breath away, game drives that keep you on the edge of your seat, meals that make you ask, “Jamie who”, and best of all, a level of professional hospitality that will blow you away.

FullSizeRenderYour adventure starts from the moment you enter the gates; we were greeted and directed to the arrivals lounge where we could relax and enjoy various drinks whilst waiting for our very own Land Rover game drive vehicle, with a guide, who picked us up and drove us to our respective lodge for our stay.

Pumba is set on 7000 hectares of privately owned land and is home to the Pumba Water Lodge and Msenge Bush Lodge. Equally as impressive, our home for the few nights was to be Msenge. During the short 15 minute transfer to the lodge we saw Blesbuck, Warthog, Impala, Giraffe and 3 white lions…now that’s the way you want to start your safari.

FullSizeRender (2)We were greeted by the receptionist with warm towels and whilst the porter wheeled our bags down to our very private bush chalet, we were checked in and given a brief tour of the lodge and facilities that over look an open plain with a watering hole being visited by a few Black Wildebeest and Impala.

The rooms are nothing short of spectacular! Each of the 11 chalets are set deep in the bush so you have the utmost privacy. The amenities are first class and the fact that each chalet has it’s own splash pool was just the cherry on the cake!

FullSizeRender (4)5pm approached and we made our way up to the lodge were we greeted by Wayne, our ranger for the duration of our stay. Wayne is a born and bred Eastern Cape farm boy, who has the look of Indiana Jones and the knowledge of David Attenbourogh, but best of all is the fact that he loves what he does! He enthusiastically showed us around his “Office” as he liked to call it, and we were all hanging on to every word he said from the get go.

10931617_916287678403418_7471097943175932014_oPumba also has an in-house spa and wellness facility, with various treatments being offered as well as a full gym and steam room. Adele enjoyed a pamper session whilst Wayne and I made our way over to the Water Lodge for a spot of Archery, how very civilized of us!

All in all, we had a fantastic time and we would not hesitate to send any of our guests to Pumba in a heart beat. So check out our specials section of the newsletter for some great deals that they currently have on offer and make your way to the Eastern Cape for some fantastic R&R…
